Introducing Conversations With Anela & KJ

Updated: Jun 11, 2022

One of the most common requests I've received in the past few months is to bring back the old podcast I had with my friend KJ Kearney of Black Food Fridays. Our Fix Your Plate Podcast focused on food and beverage through our eyes, two Black creatives just trying to figure out our place in the food creator space, make our work sustainable, and learn some dope shit along the way. We wanted to keep it going, but couldn't without the support of our now-defunct podcast network - which provided the editing and support for us to produce Fix Your Plate. If we truly wanted to commit to making our work more sustainable we couldn't keep it going weekly for free.

Hey Anela! This comment is for you and KJ to consider answering in your podcast — Both of you are in high visibility spaces educating folks on Black food, Black creators, and leaving a massive impact on your followers. It’s clear you put a lot of research, time, and care into all the way you both engage with your followers. Despite that, y’all receive hurtful comments often trying to educate you both as if you didn’t put in the research before publishing content. So, my question is, how do you both, as Black creators, engage in self-preservation to be able to continue publish incredible content despite some harmful comments you get in return?
