Welcome! Now that you're here, what is this space all about?

Magic at the Margins is a community where we explore food and beverage as cultural, political, historical, and deeply personal arenas. We seek to highlight marginalized voices without expecting them to stand as experts in their cuisine or only hear from them during their respective heritage months. We also believe in making this space as accessible as possible for community members and contributors. I will work to ensure that contributors are adequately compensated and treated with respect, be they freelancers who write or edit content for this community or businesses we feature. Together we go beyond cheese pulls and food porn. We seek to go deeper in an environment guided by community input, not by ads.

And what are our community guidelines?

In order to provide a safe community environment, some content and activity is not permitted in this space. Content and activity that is not tolerated is broadly described below. This list is not exhaustive.

Incitement & promotion of violence You may not share content or engage in activity promoting, celebrating, or instigating real-world violence. This includes but is not limited to the glorification of real-world violence, statements of intent to commit violence, or calls for violence against any party. You may not use this space to coordinate acts of violence, vandalism or property damage, or other criminal activity. Targeting individuals or groups You may not engage in or direct harassment towards individuals or communities. Harassment may include but is not limited to persistent unsolicited messages, threats of any kind, sharing or expressing intent to share private information, evading blocks or bans to persist in unwanted contact with an individual or community, or establishing communities with the explicit or implicit purpose of degrading, threatening, or otherwise targeting an individual or community. Hate speech You may not engage in hate speech on our services. We generally adhere to the definition of hate speech as messages, media, terms, or rhetoric that attacks or promotes the attack or dehumanization of people or groups on the basis of race, ethnicity, nationality, religious affiliation, sexual orientation, gender, gender identity, or disability. Users are responsible for their behavior in this community. Please abide by these Community Guidelines or you may be removed and/or your access to certain features restricted. Generally, don't be a jerk, don't engage in hate, don't use this space to break the law, and be kind to community members.
