Also, please note that this list was put together by myself and a few volunteers. While we make every effort to ensure the accuracy of the included listings, there are sure to be some oversights given the nature and size of this project. Please let us know if a listing is incorrect as we work to make this as accurate and complete as possible.
Tsehay Ethiopian Restaurant: This Ethiopian spot blocks from the Petworth metro stop boasts fresh all-teff injera, bright flavors, and multiple delivery and takeout options everyday. View Tsehay's menu and call 202-808-8952 for pick up. Order delivery via Seamless, Grubhub, or Uber Eats.
Buna: This family-owned business in Petworth serves ethically-sourced Ethiopian coffee, artisanal breakfast and lunch sandwiches, and select Ethiopian foods, with diverse vegetarian & vegan options. It remains open for takeout and delivery daily from 7am-3pm. Submit your orders through Doordash or Grubhub, or call 202-882-2223.
Sweet Sosumba Jamaican Vegan Cafe: This Jamaican vegan spot in Park View is open for takeout! Check out the menu and then call 202-313-7760 to order for curbside pickup! They're also available for delivery on UberEats, Postmates & Grubhub.
Heat Da Spot: Fruit smoothies and breakfast sandwiches are some of the many favorites at this essential Park View cafe. Open 7:30am-5pm weekdays, 8:30am-5pm weekends. Call 202-836-4719 for pick up, order delivery via Grubhub, or stop in for takeaway.
Mr. Braxton: Known for their brunch and lush decor, Mr. Braxton's remains open for takeout, including adult beverages. Call 202-882-4555 to order, open Wednesday through Sunday.
Jojo’s Restaurant : This U street gem is still open and serving up their classic dishes for our pleasure. Call ahead to order at 202-319-9350.
Service Bar: This U Street bar will make sure you can get craft cocktails and hot fried chicken directly to your door. Service Bar is open Wednesday-Sunday and offers a free delivery service within 1.5 mile radius of its U St. location. Best pricing if you order directly here or by calling 202-462-7232.
Halfsmoke: This popular Shaw spot for drinks and decadent bites remains open for pickup and delivery with reduced hours. Call 202-986-2079 to order or find them on most delivery platforms. Fridays-Sundays in June you can also pick up a frose from their stand on the back patio on Florida Ave. Note that Halfsmoke is also now home to Butter Me Up, a breakfast sandwich pop up serving outstanding sandwiches, cocktails and coffee for takeout. Habesha Market: There's still plenty of ways to get your Ethiopian fix at Habesha in Shaw! Open everyday 8:30am-10pm. Stop in, call 202-232-1919, or order online here. You can also order delivery via Uber Eats, Postmates, Seamless, or Grubhub.
Mignot Ethiopian: This NW D.C. Ethiopian restaurant provides authentic cuisine and feeds the community. Call ahead to place your order at 202-791-0845.
Andrene's Soul Food & Caribbean Café: Andrene’s in Brightwood Park continues to offer great Caribbean food for takeout! Open Monday-Friday 11:30AM-9:00PM and Saturday 11:00AM-9:30PM. Browse their menu here and call 202-291-7007 to order.
Soup Up: Get your healthful soups and handcrafted spring rolls for pick up or delivery Tuesday-Sunday in Brightwood Park. Call 202-621-6845 to submit your order.
Sunrise Caribbean Restaurant: This Brightwood area, family-owned Caribbean spot has the takeout you're craving. Call 202-291-2949 to order.
Teddy's Roti Shop: This Takoma Trinidadian shop remains open for takeout. Call 202-882-6488 to order. Also find Teddy's available for delivery on Postmates or Doordash.
Nile Ethiopian Restaurant: Serving delicious food in Takoma since 1996, Nile Ethiopian Restaurant is still open for takeout! Open Sunday-Thursday 11:00AM-12:00AM and Friday-Saturday 11:00 AM-1:00 AM. Call in advance to confirm. Browse their menu here and call 202-882-1130 to order.
Backyard Smoke Spot: This seafood and soul food grill on Georgia Avenue remains open for takeout, call 202-733-4204 to order ahead.
Senbeb Cafe: This vegetarian/vegan restaurant in the Brightwood area is open. Call 202-249-0917 to order for pickup.
7 Days Market This Ethiopian market now offers meal kit service sits in NE D.C. and puts together packages that contain local foods! Call now to pick up curbside or have it delivered 202-248-1707.
Provost: This woman owned restaurant in NE D.C. is still open serving hearty and healthy soul food. Call ahead to place your order at 202-200-9852.
Subbs by Carl (Carl's Subbs): This NE D.C. sandwich shop has been serving the neighborhood for over 30+ years. Stop by to carry out your favorite sandwich.
Calabash Tea & Tonic: This well known Black-owned tea and herbal tonic spot remains open at their Brookland location on 12th St NE. Go pick up something to sip on that will make you feel good. You can also order tea blends and tonics from this 5th generation herbalist via their website.
Jam Doung Style: This Jamaican American restaurant remains open for takeout and delivery Monday through Friday from 11-8pm and Saturdays from 12-8pm. Call 202-483-2445 to order or find them on Postmates.
Pleasant Pops: What started as a fruit pop venture, now boasts a farmer's market operation and an Adam's Morgan brick and mortar serving pops, coffee, and cafe and market items. For now, you can order for pick up Wednesday-Sunday 8am-2pm. All orders must be placed ahead of time here or by calling 202-558-5224.
Zenebech: This Ethiopian restaurant and bakery in Adams Morgan remains open for pickup and delivery 5-9pm Mon-Fri and 12-9pm Sat-Sun. Submit your orders through Doordash, Grubhub, Postmates, or Uber Eats, or call 202-667-4700.
H Street Corridor
DC Diner: This D.C. Diner will fulfill your craving for diner food such as fries, burgers, and omelettes. Place your order for carry out today by calling 202-745-5892.
Crab Boss: This popular black-owned spot known for over the top seafood plates recently opened an H street location. Online ordering is not yet available for this location though they do have a rooftop area for outdoor seating. Check their Instagram for up to date details.
Sidamo: This Ethiopian coffee shop with locations on H Street and in Maple Lawn remains open with excellent single source coffees and organic teas from 7am to 3pm.
On the Rocks: This H street spot offers American bar food and cocktails with a twist. They are open Mon through Sat from 5pm-11pm. Call 202-735-1956 to order carryout or find them available on multiple delivery apps.
Ethiopic Restaurant: This Ethiopian restaurant on H street remains open for takeout and delivery. Find them on multiple delivery platforms or order here for pickup Tuesday through Thursday from 5-10p, and Friday and Sunday from 12-10p.
Jerk at Nite: This popular JaMexican food truck is open. Look for their truck parked right outside their H street brick and mortar location (which was in development when COVID struck).
Capitol Hill/Eastern Market
The Sweet Lobby: This Black-owned sweet shop in Capitol Hill is best known for winning The Food Network's Cupcake Wars. The Sweet Lobby remains open from 10am to 7pm Monday through Saturday for pickup orders.
Souk: The Sweet Lobby's sister store and bakery, Souk, also remains open in Capitol Hill. Souk also has a new Trini brunch offering from 8:30am - 2 pm every Saturday. Order online or find them available for delivery on various platforms.
Hype Cafe DC: This cafe/coffee shop in Capitol Hill remains open from 8-6 daily. Swing by to get your caffeine fix.
District Soul Food: This Barracks Row soul food restaurant remains open for takeout or delivery. Call 202-544-8882 to order for pickup or find them on Uber Eats.
Mr. Smith’s of Georgetown, Restaurant & Piano Bar: Get your fix from Mr. Smith’s, which remains open for carryout and delivery. Checkout their carryout menu here and call 202-333-2565 to order or find them on multiple delivery platforms.
Georgetown Butcher: This Georgetown shop opened just days before the pandemic shut down the city. They serve humanely-raised meats and seafood that’s locally and internationally sourced from farms as close as two hours away to wagyu cattle farms in Japan. They also have organic groceries and produce! They offer free delivery to the DMV area on all orders over $50. Call 202-621-9746 or order here.
Oasis Liquor: This NoMa liquor store is open with great choices and reasonable prices! Stop by today or give them a call to inquire about a purchase 202-544-0012.
Letena: This Ethiopian spot in Columbia Heights has authentic meals for all diets. Call ahead to place your order 202-733-4830.
Creole on 14th: This Creole restaurant in Columbia Heights recently opened and is offering takeout, delivery, and dine in. Find them on various delivery apps or call 202-506-6995.
Agua 301: This Mexican restaurant in Navy Yard is one of the few on this list with a patio, which has reopened. In addition, Agua 301 continues takeout service and delivery on various delivery platforms. Check out their menu here.
Addis Paris Cafe: This bar has the perfect mix between French cuisine and Ethiopian cuisine. Call ahead to order at 202-588-9061.
Sommer Street Pizza: This local pizza company offers lactose-free or low lactose pizzas topped with their homemade sauce. They're currently offering delivery within 10 miles of DC of their frozen pies! Order online here.
Eden’s Kitchen: This Eritrean restaurant in Woodridge, serves up flavorful Eritrean and Ethiopian dishes. They are open for takeout and will soon serve outdoor dining. They're open from 11am-5pm Tues-Sun. Call 202-248-1286 to place your order for takeout.
Creative Grounds DC: This art and coffee haven in Bloomingdale remains open for takeout. Call 202-730-2979.
Ben’s Chili Bowl: Open since 1958, Ben's is one of DC's oldest and most beloved Black-owned restaurants. The U Street and H street locations are open for pickup and delivery of all your favorites. Order here.
Custom Cuisine: This boutique catering company specializes in fresh, locally sourced meal delivery, corporate catering and events catering. They produce out of Mess Hall in Ward 5, and offer services both onsite and through delivery to the DC Metro area. Contact them via their site or by calling 301-706-3633.
Tres Creole: This Creole catering company remains ready to serve. In addition to catering they're offering fixed menus (think crawfish, shrimp, and crab options!) for pickup at Mess Hall in DC. Check out their latest offerings on IG.
Niko's Spiked Gelato: Niko's is open for curbside pickup and delivery to all DC zip codes from Monday through Sunday, 12-8pm. If you order outside of store hours, your order will be treated as a preorder for the next day.
Margaret's Catering and Soul Food Truck: This woman owned catering company is open to deliver classic soul food. Call 703-608-9226 or find their food truck at various stops throughout DC. Food truck schedule found here.
VegHeaven: This vegan catering company located in Washington DC offers delicious desserts and treats. VegHeaven is accepting online orders for shipping! Check out their Instagram to see what they can do.
The Carolina Kitchen: This Carolina-focused spot remains open for takeout (pick-up only) at all four locations. In DC, call 202-733-1216. In Maryland, you can choose from Hyattsville (301-927-2929), Brandywine (301-782-7040) or Largo (301-350-2929).
Thompson Hospitality restaurants: This Black-owned food and facilities management company's portfolio includes multiple DC spots that are still open for takeout and delivery. Get your burger fix at Big Buns, fried chicken sandwiches at The Rub, and some classic pizzas, pastas, and salads at various Matchbox locations which remain open.
Montello Deli NE: This NE D.C. deli is providing great breakfast and deli snacks for affordable prices. Call in advance by calling 202-388-8522.
Turning Natural: This woman-owned juice bar has multiple locations open throughout the DMV. Call or stop by to pick up something healthy!
The Consulate DC: This Black chef-owned spot for Kenyan food on M Street remains open for takeout. Call 202-629-2353 to place your order.
Florida Avenue Grill: This historic restaurant re-opens June 5th for breakfast on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays from 9am-2pm. Their outdoor patio will be open as well as the side window for takeaway.
Capital City Creamery: This Congress Heights creamery is the perfect place to ease your sweet tooth! Place your order by calling 240-470-1557.
DCity Smokehouse: This popular wood smoked bbq place on Florida Avenue has got the plates you crave. Call 202-733-1919 to order for takeout.
